The problem
Across Syria and its refugee farming communities, smallholders make high-stakes calls — what to plant, when to spray, how to water — without an agronomist to ask. Extension services are thin, private advice is priced for agribusiness, and a wrong guess costs a season.
How it works
Founded by Masaoud Ali and Doaa Al-Ibrahim, Agri-Answer is an agricultural company concept that connects farmers through the internet and its applications to answer their questions and help them manage their crops. The pitch, in Ali’s words: the best solution at the least cost, delivered as a seasonal subscription timed to the growing calendar.
Pain points
Advice arrives late or not at all, field visits cost more than the diagnosis is worth, and generic guidance misses the local pest, soil, and water picture — exactly where a subscription Q&A layer fits.
Business model
Seasonal subscriptions: charge farmers once per growing season for ongoing answers and crop-management support, keeping the price low enough for smallholders while matching revenue to the agricultural cycle.
Challenges
This is a paper-stage idea: despite winning its Idea Stage track, Agri-Answer never transitioned past incubation into a functional market tool. Reaching offline farmers, staffing agronomists per crop region, and converting free advice-seekers into paying subscribers were all unproven.
Funding
- Raised: none — concept stage; the Erbil win brought a shot at up to $8,000 in cash prizes at the SPARK Ignite Conference finals in Amsterdam, not an investment round.
- Valuation: none.
