The problem
A part-time investor with a full-time job faces months of manual research — location scouting, return calculations, cross-checking listings — and can still lose the deal to a faster buyer, because no single tool curates raw listings into an actual investment decision.
How it works
Mashvisor was born at Startup Weekend Ramallah 2013 on the idea of mashing data to advise users. Investors enter a budget and area; the platform aggregates listings data into property profiles with projected rental income, occupancy, cap rate, cash flow, and cash-on-cash return — shown side by side for traditional versus Airbnb strategies — layered with neighborhood heatmaps and comparables. Data engineer Ahmed Hashlamon joined founders Peter Abualzolof and Mohammed Jebrini as third co-founder, and the team built the product full-time from Ramallah from 2014 (Wamda).
Pain points
Listings scattered across a minimum of three sites, analysis measured in months per market, no unified long-term-versus-short-term comparison, and professional-grade data out of reach for beginners investing on the side.
Business model
SaaS subscriptions sold to investors and agents in tiers — recurring analytics access rather than transaction fees — extended through lifetime-deal distribution channels.
Challenges
Geography as a fundraising penalty: after winning the 2019 MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Startup Competition ($50,000), more than 20 interested investors walked away on learning the HQ was in Ramallah and another 15–20 would only invest if the company moved to the Gulf (founder interview, Wamda 2019). Add hiring for American-market fluency from Ramallah and competing against far better-funded US analytics rivals.
Funding
$800,000 raised in total as of August 2019 — including $250,000 from an angel investor and participation in the 2015 Ibtikar Fund — plus the $50,000 MIT Enterprise Forum prize; the company was seeking up to $4 million in Series A over the following six months (Wamda, Aug 2019). Its 2015 seed deck showed ~$12,000 MRR by January 2017 at 30 percent month-over-month growth (StartupFundraising teardown).
Latest — May 2026
On 6 May 2026 Mashvisor launched as an app in the ChatGPT app directory, letting ChatGPT users query live US rental-investment data — cap rates, Airbnb analytics, rental comparables, and cash-flow projections across more than 2 million properties — inside their AI workflow (PRNewswire).
