The problem
Setting up an apartment in Amman in 2017 meant starting from zero: design inspiration lived in foreign-language sites disconnected from local taste and budgets, and finding an interior designer ran entirely on word of mouth — with no portfolios to compare and no Arabic content guiding homeowners.
How it works
Darpedia is an integrated digital platform connecting homeowners and developers with engineers, designers, contractors, and suppliers across MENA. Homeowners browse inspirational projects and articles, post projects, and request quotations; professionals showcase portfolios, track calls and messages through an automated dashboard, submit bids, and list products.
Pain points
An Arabic content gap in the design world, talented design professionals invisible online, and homeowners hiring blind with no way to compare past work or request structured quotes.
Business model
Two-sided marketplace economics: free inspiration content draws homeowners, while professionals and suppliers pay for presence, portfolio showcases, product listings, and quotation-management tooling aimed at a targeted renovation audience.
Challenges
Matchmaking marketplaces live or die on professionals winning real work — Darpedia must keep proving the concept at home before its stated regional expansion, while content costs and Gulf competitors raise the bar for the playbook.
Funding
- Raised: $200K angel (Oct 2017) from two undisclosed regional angel investors, six weeks after launch, earmarked for expanding reach, onboarding more professionals in Jordan, and building awareness of home design services.
Latest — Oct 2017
In October 2017 Darpedia announced the $200K angel round with 70 professionals already onboarded and new ones joining almost daily, with co-founder and CEO Anas Elayyan saying the team needed to prove the concept first — then expand regionally.
