The problem
Clinic-grade skincare means clinic visits and clinic prices, while ordinary creams all promise the same thing from the same outsourced labs. Beauty brands with no technology and no factories cannot differentiate, and shoppers cannot tell what actually works.
How it works
APR runs its own R&D (the ADC device center, launched 2022, plus a dermatological research institute) and its own factory in Seoul, developing the Medicube skincare line alongside Age-R electrical-stimulation devices such as the Booster-H, which helps skin absorb skincare products. Sales run direct to consumers online and through retail, pushed abroad by influencer marketing focused on the US, Japan, and China.
Pain points
Expensive dermatology procedures, commoditized skincare with no provable edge, and the trust gap facing Korean brands selling to overseas buyers who cannot test products first.
Business model
Hardware plus consumables: Age-R devices create the installed base, Medicube skincare drives repeat purchases. IPO proceeds went to production capacity, overseas influencer marketing, and R&D — and a second factory in Pyeongtaek is slated to lift capacity to eight million units a year.
Challenges
Growth leans on viral device hits and influencer cycles that can fade; the capacity bet only pays off if demand keeps climbing; and each new market means fighting incumbents with far deeper distribution.
